本片系统完整的讲述了伊拉克是怎样陷入战争、军阀统治、犯罪率暴增以及无政府主义状态中的。为了取得大量翔实的资料，电影曾经拍摄了200多小时的胶片，以客观的角度为人们展示了自2003年秋天以后伊拉克所发生的那些事情。至于所采访的对象包括政府高层，当然也有伊拉克市民、美国士兵以及局势分析家们。
